Urban Rojgar ("Urban Rojgar," "we," "us," or "our") operates a hyperlocal marketplace mobile application that connects people who need tasks or services performed ("Task Givers") with people who perform those tasks or services ("Task Doers"). This Privacy Policy explains what personal data we collect, why we collect it, how we use and protect it, and the rights you have over it.

This Policy is designed to align with India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP Act) and, for users located in the European Economic Area or United Kingdom, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). By creating an account or using Urban Rojgar, you agree to the collection and use of information as described here.

1. Information We Collect

We collect information you provide directly, information generated by your use of the app, and information from your device, in the following categories:

  • Identity and contact data: full name, phone number, and profile photo.
  • Verification data: government ID details and documents you voluntarily submit to build a Verified Work Portfolio (for Task Doers), and the OTP verification status of your phone number.
  • Location data: your city and area at signup, and — with your permission — real-time or approximate device location, used to match tasks, show nearby Task Doers, and enable live task tracking.
  • Profile and preference data: languages spoken, selected role (Give Tasks, Do Tasks, or Both), skill categories, experience level, availability, and service radius.
  • Task and transaction data: tasks posted or accepted, messages exchanged through the app, ratings and reviews, and payment or payout records.
  • Device and usage data: device identifiers, app version, operating system, crash logs, and general usage analytics (e.g., screens visited, features used).

2. How We Use Your Information

  • To create and authenticate your account, including OTP-based phone verification.
  • To match Task Givers with relevant, nearby Task Doers based on location, language, skills, and availability.
  • To enable real-time task tracking and in-app communication between matched users.
  • To build and display Verified Work Portfolios, ratings, and reviews that support trust and safety.
  • To process payments, payouts, and maintain transaction records for dispute resolution and legal compliance.
  • To send task-related notifications, service updates, and — where you've consented — promotional messages.
  • To detect, investigate, and prevent fraud, abuse, and violations of our Terms & Conditions.
  • To analyze and improve app performance, features, and user experience.

3. Legal Basis for Processing (GDPR)

For users in the EEA/UK, we rely on the following legal bases: performance of a contract (to provide the marketplace service you sign up for), consent (for location access, marketing communications, and optional profile data), legitimate interests (fraud prevention, service improvement), and compliance with legal obligations (tax and financial record-keeping).

4. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal data. We share information only as follows:

  • Between matched users: when a task is posted or accepted, relevant profile details (name, photo, rating, portfolio, approximate location) are shared between the Task Giver and Task Doer to complete the task.
  • Service providers: vendors who help us operate the app, such as cloud hosting, SMS/OTP delivery, payment processing, and analytics providers, bound by confidentiality and data protection obligations.
  • Legal and safety reasons: when required by law, legal process, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Urban Rojgar, our users, or the public.
  • Business transfers: in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to continued protection under this Policy.

5. Data Retention

We retain personal data for as long as your account remains active and as needed to provide the service, resolve disputes, enforce our agreements, and comply with legal, tax, and accounting obligations. Task and transaction records may be retained longer where required by applicable law. You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time, subject to legal retention requirements described below.

6. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
  • Request erasure of your data ("right to be forgotten"), subject to legal retention requirements.
  • Withdraw consent for optional processing, such as marketing communications or location access, at any time.
  • Request a portable copy of your data.
  • Nominate a representative to exercise your rights on your behalf under the DPDP Act.
  • Lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority, including India's Data Protection Board or, for EEA/UK users, your local data protection authority.

7. Location Data — Special Note

Location is core to how Urban Rojgar works: it powers task matching, service radius, and live tracking during an active task. You can control location permissions through your device settings at any time. Disabling location access may limit or disable core features, such as being matched with nearby tasks or Task Doers.

8. Data Security

We use industry-standard technical and organizational measures — including encryption in transit, access controls, and regular security reviews — to protect your data against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. Children's Privacy

Urban Rojgar is not intended for individuals under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal data from minors. If we become aware that we have collected data from a minor, we will take steps to delete it promptly.

10. International Data Transfers

Your data may be stored and processed in India or other countries where our service providers operate. Where data is transferred outside your home jurisdiction, we take reasonable steps to ensure it receives an equivalent level of protection, including through contractual safeguards.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or legal requirements. We will notify you of material changes through the app or via the contact details on file, and update the "Last updated" date above.
